| Esperanto is an international language, which was developed by L. L. Zamenhof in the 1880s, and which was published in 1887. It is easier to learn than any other spoken language, because of its regular, exception-free grammar, its perfectly phonetic writing system, and its regular formation of words from unchanging roots (which were taken in the beginning from European languages, mainly French, German, Spanish, Latin, English, Russian, Polish, and Greek, but which have been added to from various non-Indo-European languages over the years). |

| In many nations throughout the world, Esperanto is used for communication between people of different native languages. Magazines and books (both original and translated) are published in it, and it's spoken at various international conferences, especially in Europe. On the Net, people use it in newsgroups and chat-rooms, for example, soc.culture.esperanto and the Virtual Esperanto Convention. |
